The Difference Between Rest and Sleep

Find out the difference between the two.

There are times when you’re tired, but napping just isn’t an option. During these moments, you might wonder whether taking a quick rest—closing your eyes, putting your feet up, and clearing your mind for a couple of minutes—would be as beneficial. The short answer: not quite. But it’s a good second choice.
The Perks of a Rest
Sometimes referred to as quiet wakefulness, resting with your eyes closed can calm your mind, give at least some of your neurons a break (since you’re not actively thinking or concentrating on something), and let your muscles and organs relax. It can also reduce stress, improve your mood, and increase alertness, mental clarity, creativity, and motivation. All of these changes can enhance your productivity.
The Shortcomings
It’s only in the deeper stages of slumber that you get a substantial cognitive boost—resting won’t increase your ability to remember new information. It also won’t help your cells repair or regenerate themselves, and you won’t get some of the other physiological benefits—such as the release of growth hormone and other hormones (including those that regulate appetite and satiety)—of true snooze time.
The Bottom Line
Your body needs both sleep and rest. Think of taking a rest as giving yourself a break or time-out from the hectic pace and pressure of daily life. Resting doesn’t even have to be done lying down. You can do it while seated, by meditating or engaging in visualization or deep-breathing exercises. The important thing is to give your mind and body a chance to recover and recharge when you’re feeling out of steam.

Comfort Therapy LLC

Comfort Therapy LLC is a health and wellness educational service. In addition to the educational information on the comfortttherapy.blogspot.com blog, I offer group workshops/seminars and individual well-being consultations. The holistic wellness program is designed to help you learn how to be more comfortable. We live in our bodies, led by the thoughts in our minds, fueled by the spirit (life force) within us. Comfort is the result of balancing the energy of our body, mind and spirit. Knowing the comfort and discomfort in your style of living allows you to learn wellness techniques to be more comfort-able. This is Comfort Therapy.
How quickly a year goes by! I have learned some valuable information over the past year. The biggest revelation has been how easily we form habits around a routine. After 40 plus years of washing clothes on the weekend because I worked all week, I am still following this habit! There are so many new things to learn in retirement. I have learned to watch the weather and let mother nature help guide my day. For example: it is easier to dig in the earth after a good rain; on a hot day do your heavy outdoor work in the morning or evening; shop when the work force is at work; surf the Internet before the schools end their day and always ask about the senior discount. Maximizing the benefits of retirement can be a full-time job! I thoroughly enjoyed my year sabbatical. I am refreshed and ready for the next journey.

Greetings! 2017 almost slipped by without a post! Time passes very quickly.
I am retiring from working for someone else and plan to refresh myself for the next season of life. I call it the last trimester of life...0-30, 31-60, 61 and beyond. I will be able to devote more time to sharing and researching information for the well-being of "comfort".  I plan to take a year sabbatical (ceasing from structured planned labor) and focusing my attention on what I can learn from natural things. I want to ease back into the rhythm of living. Once I go through the four seasons of transition, I will continue the journey of sharing "Comfort Therapy". I will have seasonal workshops which will help others find their ability to find "comfort" by connecting the body, mind and spirit in harmony. In other words, how to be more comfort-able in life. Can you accept the things you cannot change? Do you change the things you can? Do you know the difference?

Someone shared this quote with me. I share it with you....asking you to think what brings you comfort that does not cost anything?

“Even after all this time,
the sun never says to the earth,
“You owe me.” Look what happens
with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.”

Building Green

There are three pillars when building a home. Quality vs. Cost vs. Size. You have to find a balance of these three to reach your dream home goal. A friend cautioned that building a house is not for the faint of heart. What I found was if you have good friends, skilled tradesmen, have an open mind to learn and show your appreciation for the expertise of all involved, you have a good chance of being successful.
TK Constructors is a wonderful builder that will let you customize to your hearts content.

Where does time go?

What has happened over the last year? I built an energy efficient green home! It takes quite a bit of energy and a host of good people to accomplish a goal like this. I learned so much and have more "comfort" therapy to share.

Did you know?
Do we lose body water when we breathe?
When we inhale, air moving through our air passageways (i.e., trachea and bronchi) becomes humidified. This means that we are adding moisture to it. Subsequently, when we exhale, much of the humidified air is lost to the outside environment. This is noticeable on a cold day as humidified exhaled air condenses to form little clouds. The amount of body water lost in this process is about 300 to 500 milliliters, depending on the humidity level of the air. For instance, in a dry environment, such as a desert climate or at higher altitudes, a little more of our body water is used to humidify the air we inhale. This in turn means that a little more water would be lost during exhalation. Conversely, breathing more humid air decreases the amount of water lost through our lungs.
